St. Thomas School is a Christian Minority School established by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Allahabad and governed by St. Mary's Educational Society, 32 Thornhill Road, Allahabad. The school is situated at Lower Lines, Chunar Town, on the bank of the Holy River Ganga. St. Thomas School caters to the educational, psychological, physical, moral and spiritual development of the children. It aims at the education of the Christian Community around and also extends its service to the members of other communities without any discrimination of caste, creed, community or language to the extent possible.
Chunar Mission has an impressive history of more than two hundred years. In order to cater to the educational needs of Chunar town and surrounding localities, a Hindi Medium School was established in the year 1980. As the years passed, impelled by the repeated requests from the people, and having realized the need of this little town, the management decided to open an English Medium school affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education. Under the able supervision of Late Rev. Fr. Henry Suares, the former Parish Priest and Manager of the Hindi Medium School, a beautiful building was erected in the Church premises in the year 2005. St. Thomas School English Medium School ( CBSE BOARD) was formally opened on 3rd April 2006 under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Walter D' Silva for LKG to class 3 with 135 admissions in the first scholastic year. The school is flourishing with the dedicated services rendered by the Priests of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Prayagraj, the C.J sisters of Prayagraj province and the committed teachers.
Currently the school caters to students from class LKG to Class XII and imparts to its pupils, knowledge in a unique combination of intellectual, social, moral, emotional, aesthetic, physical and psychological development, with its motto TAMOSOMA JYOTIRGAMAYA - FROM DARKNESS TO LIGHT- under the care of St. Thomas the patron of the school. Keeping pace with the rapid changes taking place in the society, in order to help the students to equip themselves to fit the world of the 21st century, the school provides digital teaching system, in each class that enable the children to learn in a better way.
Today St. Thomas School stands as the temple of learning for many aspirants to fulfill their cherished dreams. Great are the tasks we have accomplished, greater are those to be accomplished.
